Let's hear what you guys use? I would like a semi-auto... But a pump is fine... Looking about $300-$400 to spend...

    Thoughts and suggestions please?

At that price range, and it being your "first", 870 sounds like it'll fit the bill.

    no problem.

If you want to get into a nice auto, think Benelli or Winny SX2/3 and think about adding 5-600 to your budget ($800-$1000 price range). I'd get one of those over an 1100.

870, 500,590 all pump and in your range, closest semi in your range would be a SAIGA, around $450.

I just got a Remington 870 for my first shotgun...I'm VERY happy with it. I picked it up at Gander Mountain for $300.

Its the only choice if he wants a semi unless he ponies up more cash.

I love my 590 if I run out of ammo I still got the bayo :eek3:
The 500 isn't a bad choice either you can pick up one of the packages with the 20" and 28" barrels along with regular stock and p grip for around $320ish I think. The 870 is also a fine choice.

they're getting really hard to find now though. I wish I had bought 2 :hs:

I've been recommending the 500s for the people wanting something really cheap. The 870 is great, but more expensive.

I don't have one yet, but 870 is one of those guns that almost everyone has.

Both the Mossberg and Remington are excellent choices. Either will serve you well for many many years. I do prefer the location of the controls of the Mossberg, but I own a few Remingtons that I have been very pleased with too. I'd say, buy the one that is the better deal. You won't go wrong with either.

I have no experience with FN, Saiga, or Benelli. Well, I have a Benelli M4 on the way, but I haven't received it yet so I can not comment on that one.

The FN Police pump is just a modified Winchester 1300. Good base to build off of. It was built by US Repeating Arms under the FN name. They used the last of the 1300 parts they had left and made them the FN pumps, so when they're gone they're gone.
