Hay guys. Long time no post in this forum. :wavey:

I'm in Puerto Rico for work for a few weeks and of course I'm taking a lot of pictures.

I can't decide if all of these are interesting and I'm interested in your thoughts / what you would do differently / better.

I have a few more but I gotta run now, I'll post them later. :wiggle:

So. Not really doing anything for any of you, eh?

I'm not really feeling this first one as much as I was when I was IN the cemetary... anyone else?

I like this one *better* than the last, but again, the mood is different. Maybe I'm just spamming you guys with stuff I think is "meh" now. :o

These next two I like moar. :big grin:

Again, if you have any suggestions for stuff you'd do differently for shots like these, I'm all ears. Or... eyes... as the case may be.

Earlier today I asked a little old man if I could take his picture and he said "WHY?" and kind of glared at me.
Then before I could answer he started cussing me out under his breath and threatening to chase me down and break my camera.
    I walked off. :p

What are you trying to do? most of them have zero subject, and folow no sort of composition.

The rose in the cemetery is kinda cool. Might have worked better at a different angle though. IDK.

    :hsd:

I tried a few different shots but I thought this one came out best. The problem with the cemetary was that the graves are hella close together so no matter what the angle it's more marble & granite than anything else. :o

What am I trying to do? I dunno. Create something interesting. I was hopeing something cool would come out of the palm tree/basket ball hoop composition, but I wound up disappointed by that one. I did shoot a bunch of each of these shots and chose the best for you guys. Or what I thought was the best anyway. My favorite is probably the ocean pic at the bottom of the first post. I set that as my wallpaper.
But next I like the barbed wire with the palm trees, for a couple of reasons. First, the barbed wire is diagonal through the pic, which I always like lines like that. Then, it seems like a contrast, because you have these beautiful palms, but then the diagonal sharp barbs through the middle. That's my favorite overall although it doesn't make for a good wallpaper.

I also really like the palm in silouhette, because it's like the main subject isn't lit and the background is... which seems sort of backwards and fun. I guess.

Those are just my feelings. Again, I'm very open to your recommendations. And ref: my story above about the old man. I really thought that shit was funny. :p

The problem with the palm against the ocean, is that the palm is too dark to even notice whats there, and the ocean is about 1,000,000 x more interesting. I agree on the barbed wire picture that the diagonal line gives the picture some excitement, but it just seems under exposed, too dark.

    .

Even though these pictures don't have the most interesting subjects, you can still make them much better by working on your composition. For example, your first shot with the basket ball hoop would be better if you just cropped off the bottom third of the shot. You only need to see a little bit of the wall, everything below that is extraneous. For the third picture, all you really need is the middle third of the image. Everything above and below that doesn't really add anything substantial.

In general, it seems that you're shooting a bit wider than you need to, trying to get as much information into a single image as possible when the opposite would be better for your pictures. Ask yourself if something will make the image stronger before you stick it in the frame. Hope that helps.

Okay, I thought about what you guys said and I've tried to apply some of it.

Regarding the barbed wire & palm trees, I do have another shot where I exposed it differently, but you don't really get the contrast anymore. Here's what I mean:

In these I tried to do a better job picking out a "subject." The first one is another shot from the cemetary; it has a subject, I think you'll agree, but it doesn't really do much for me otherwise.

Same goes for the coconut. It looked like a cool idea but I'm not sure about the execution.

I also like some of these architectural things with bold colors. :)

And now the best pics of the day, I think:

This little girl was terrified of the pigeons.

I thought this dome was beautiful against the sea.

Again, very open to critiques. :)

The last one (cropped) is your best shot. I like the composition.
