    Bringing:

    80-200 f/2.8
    50mm 1.8

    Shooting at relatively high ISO

anything else I need to know? shouldn't be too hard I wouldn't think?

I'll bring a flash just in case but I doubt they will allow it.

if I had to guess, 50mm, wide open, high ISO, manual priority. Never done it, but that's what I'd try. :dunno:

I shot a play once with my 70-200 2.8 and the lighting sucked. I was getting around 1/60th the whole time. :sad2: Lets just say, I wont be shooting plays anymore.

Is it an actual play? Or is it a photo session? I'd shoot plays during a photo session at school and they'd make everyone freeze during a scene so it was a piece of cake taking pictures. But I'm also guessing they'll be moving. Good look.

This is 'Guys and Dolls'. I used a 50mm 1.4. Lighting wasn't the best but I made do. Using the prime, I couldn't get as close as I wanted too. This was in a theater so I had to move up and back to get my shots. I'm still a newb so some of these are softer than I'd like too, but idk if I could of got them crisp with the lighting.

And uh, I resized them in photobucket, I'm sure in a little while these pictures will be resized on here.

edit: oh and CC welcome. I'm usually scared to post pics in here with it being OT and all.

Stage shows are usually lit w/ hot spotlights which can be very harsh lighting. Be careful not to blow out your highlights especially on people's skin because the dark backgrounds could easily throw off your camera's meter.

    Why? You don't shoot RAW?

To the OP, most everything was covered here already, but one thing I can add is use spot metering and meter off the subjects and not the usually black black background.

i've shot quite a few plays and you might want to bring something wider if possible.

Just got finished editing my pics. I basicaly shot everything at 800-1000 ISO at f/1.8 (50mm) or f/2.8 (80-200mm).

Turned out good. I was happy with them. I'll post some up in a minute.
I even shot some at 3200 and 6400 ISO when the lights were dim and I'm really impressed with them. I'll post some of those as well.

If I had a wider, fast lens it would've come in handy, but I didn't really want any wide shots since this was for the school newspaper anyways....

Seems like an 85mm prime would suite you better.

I feel twice the pain.. 70-200 F4 in low light just aint crackin.

Not all the time, sometimes I need to upload from my car. RAW would make it 12 take times longer.
