There is a local tournament that I'm going to be shooting on Friday and I'm looking for ideas. It's a fund raiser, there should be like 30 golfers there. It starts at 11am and goes till it finishes.

I will bring my 40D, my 28-135IS, and my 10-22. I will have a tripod, anything else I should bring? I have a cheap manual external flash that I will be bringing along as well just to get some fill light, but it will be on camera.

Anybody have any example pics or suggestions?

    I don't think you'll need a tripod :dunno:

I also wouldn't use a flash, golfers get distracted very easily.

I don't think you'll need the 10-22 to shoot the golfers, you probably won't be that close to them.

Just my opinion.... If I were shooting a golf tourney I'd just bring my 80-200 and maybe 2x extender and call it a day.

10-22 can be used to get a nice shot of the course, I say bring that and a tele.

Tripod? I'd agree with a tele and wide but not much else.

UWA is great for golf course photography.

I'd think the tripod would be a unecessary, but the wide angle could get some awesome shots. Specially if the golf course is scenic.

Ooookay, so I have decided on:
    40D
    10-22
    28-135
    Renting a 70-200 f2.8

I think with that setup, based on what you guys said I should be able to get anything I need.

I wouldn't bother dragging the 28-135 if you're renting the longer one :dunno:

i was gonna say that too.

I don't think you realize how far back you need to be in order not to distract them.

Well I haven't gone and shot it yet, but I did already rent the glass, and yea I'm now regretting not getting something longer... although playing with the lens has taught me that I don't think I want a 70-200 f2.8 Is, it's too damned heavy.

so I am here at the tournament. I do find myself occasionally wishing I had something longer than the 200 but I am actually using the 10_22 a lot. it is a charity game so everybody is being really cool. I brought my ash and I am really glad I did because as I am taking pics of 4somes by the 18th tee the shadow is terrible, so I am filling with my external. I will post pics tonight or tomorrow, I am at 570 now and the day is just about half over.... post is gunna be deadly.

Okay, I take back all the mean and awful things I said about the 70-200 being a little overweight... it's so CRISP! The bokeh is so smooth! It's amazing. I don't want to return it tomorrow :wtc:

Yeah golf is fun but try not to center your subject in every shot.

Also try to position your subject in the bottom left area and have their feet closer to the bottom of the picture to get a cool effect. Get low when shooting as well.

Also when outdoors try using some fill flash especially when you are taking pictures of people.

Damn I wanna go shoot some golf. Looks fun :coold:

I agree, don't center your subject so much. I like some of them but none really make me say "wow!"

I think someone told you to try to get some emotion after they make or miss putts...Did you try that? None of these just seem to tell much of a story :dunno:

The quality of the shots and the color looks great though!
