I'm going to shoot a local band in a few weeks, and thought I'd try something a little different. Just charge a set price ($150-$200) for a CD of 20-30 images, edited, various sizes and with the rights to do whatever they want with them.

My question is: Should I include a watermark of just my name in the bottom corner, or not worry about it? Or should I just ask for a byline whenever feasible?

    Thanks broskis :)

-edit- also, if I charge $160 for the 4 band members, that's essentially $40 per person for 5-10 images and unlimited usage rights. Broken down like that, does that seem too cheap?

I can't see anyone actually accepting a watermark on photos, it would make it almost unuseable.

the reason I ask is because the last band I shot ASKED for a watermark because he didn't want to have to credit me :dunno:. Ask and ye shall receive lol

If its just rights to use the image son their website or something the price is fine, but if its for promo materials you need to be charging way more.

I dont sell the rights to my photos for less than 750 an image

Where do I draw the line between promo materials and just Website stuff? Is Facebook and Myspace not promotional? Do you mean promo as in print? And keep in mind this is just a local band with a medium following.

Should I offer the package with a limit on the resolution so they can't print unless they purchase hi-res from me?

You can separate your package for strictly web use, and then one for print.

It would suck if they make it big and they use your images for their Albums and flyers and you got a measly 200 bucks for it.

You gotta remember to look at the big picture.

So I should have a lower-res Web package? That's a good idea :bigthumb:

and for that price, I'd watermark them. If they want them for publication w/o a watermark, they need to pay more.

Id charge more. The band I shot last week I charged $500 and thats cause I know one of the guys. It's a lot of work to shoot that many people, and odds are they're gonna want individuals and what-not too (usually happens).
