    Guys,

I currently have a decent pair of New Balance 473's (See Here)

There really isnt anything wrong with them, but I think I could use a bit more cushion/spring. Im 6'4'', 315 pounds.

The shoes need to be "offroad" style, as I walk and jog on rocky dirty trails. The more tread the better.

I guess my main question is, how do these Nike Shox type shoes work for us heavier guys? Is there even a point in getting them, or will the shocks be useless under my weight?

    Im serious tho :o

    Thanks

No disrespect, but you're too big to be jogging. Did a doctor actually clear you for that type of physical activity at your weight? Imagine the wear and tear you would be putting on your knees and ankles.

You should probably stick to walking, maybe uphill? You can burn just as many calories walking on a steep incline as you can "jogging" the same distance.

shox are... meh... i personally don't like exercising in them, but they're ok for everyday wear, i guess :dunno:

they're definitely fucking horrible for squatting and deadlifting, by the way

Sigh, not what I want to hear :hs: My ultimate goal is to be going out for Phoenix PD within a year, maybe a year and half. I need to lose about 60-70 more pounds :hs:

Do you have access to a treadmill?

Seriously, 4mph uphill uses the same calories as a 7mph flat run.

start lifting weights and doing swimming/rowing which is great cardio but will put a lot less stress on your joints...

if you don't hit the weights and all you care about is the number on the scale instead of body composition you're going to end up skinny-fat

2nded. kicks your ass and much easier on the joints.

you are really risking you joints every time you run at 315.

whatever you do stay off the concrete

Most PD's care more about the fact that literally the high majority of applicants will fail the background portion.

But TZ.. good luck. No real work experience, no volunteer, no military, no professional experience at all.. I donno how it is in Chicago, but over here despite what people say, the actual percentage let in is just about 1% of all applicants. But if you can get in it's a good career, depending on what kinda person you are.

Too bad you ain't messican or some shit. Being azn doesn't really help you.

:mamoru: one of my good friends works for SFFD. He told me that getting into a FD as a white male is like finding a needle in a haystack nowadays. So sad.

I've had 2 jobs :wiggle: just not within the last year :o
that may be my only weakness IMO, but even then, i know my employers liked me and when i worked, i did work hard & left on my own accord. :hs:

being mexican would definitely help, as there are a lot of spanish speakers in this area :o same with polish, in fact they pay extra if you are fluent in extra languages. i took 6 yrs of spanish in school, so i know a little bit. Just small sentences and the basics; I'm very rusty and have forgotten a lot unfortunately.
