Cop's Son Accidentally Fires Gun At Police Station
Internal Investigation Under Way, Chief Says

LEOMINSTER, Mass. -- The seven-year-old son of a Leominster police officer accidentally fired his father's gun while inside the city's police station.

Police Chief Peter Roddy told the Telegram and Gazette of Worcester that no one was injured when the bullet went into a ceiling last Thursday.

The chief said the officer, whom he would not identify, was off-duty when he stopped by the station with his son.

The officer was reportedly showing someone a demonstration model of a holster for his semiautomatic gun.

At some point, he put the gun down while reloading an ammunition magazine.

That's when his son picked it up and fired the shot.

The chief said the department is conducting an internal investigation.

Internal investigation means he probably wont get any punishment over it either, if it happend to one of us we'de probably be facing some sort of charges.

Yeah. I hate that part. Some of the storys I've heard from cops as far as "oopses" just blow my mind.

For instance: A cop pulled a guy over for speeding. The man opened his glove box to get his registration, and a gun falls out. The man catches it, and the cop opens fire, killing him. It turns out the man's wife had left her handgun in the glove box and forgotten about it. The guy had no idea it was in there. Justified shooting.

There are a lot of stories like this that make me very, very cautious when dealing with the an LEO.

i have recently put my application into the Australian Federal Police, and as far as i can tell im looking good for a position... but one thing im definately not looking forward too is the cover-up of police negligence and accidents. if i make a mistake i hold myself accountable... im just hoping i never get into a situation of investigating another officers mistake, i couldnt 'bend' the truth to cover someones ass...

:werd: not trying to bad mouth LEO's I know some of my threads probably look like it but theirs alot of them out there that are pretty ignorant to the laws and various saftey issues.. I meet quite a few LEO's at my job either retired or just looking to make a little money on the side. Quite a few I'm sure are/were good cops but theres a few that I wonder how the hell did he become a cop :ugh:

Another one, and the reason I will never hand a weapon to an LEO:

Rookie out with his Veteren stops a person. Person indicates that he has a weapon. The rookie asks the man to hand him the weapon. The veteren who cannot hear them sees the man pulling out a weapon and shoots and kills the man. Justified shooting.
