just got into navy accepted to OCS for surface warfare

right now, I know I can't cut it (9 minute mile at race pace, 30 situps, 20 push ups on a good day, and I love long hot showers)

I've got a lot of work ahead of me, but tonight is for celebrating (easy workout, steak dinner, beer, cigar, then....)!

pushups are easy to max depending on body type. If you do pushups twice a day every day then work out 3 times a week (compound exercises only) he could add 15 to that number in about 4-5 months.

And yes I've done this so I know what I'm talking about.

15? I'd hope 5 months of working out 3 times a week would net more than 35 pushups...

No, it's far from real. You act like you just stepped foot onto Paris Island or something. You're getting it easy and get to go to swanky Newport, Rhode Island, not P'cola, FL. Gunny Erwin (the DI in the video) won't be there and be thankful, he took immense pleasure dropping my class at every opportunity, in addition to graduting as small of a class as the system would allow.

Tips: Buy two good pair of running shoes (Brooks, etc...) and start running. Your name should be Forest Gump by the time you ship. (2-3 miles 3-4 times a week) You need to work on your breathing and endurance. Push-ups and abs... It would do you well to research how to strengthen your core muscles, because you will use them (don't be the first to drop to the deck on day 3) and you need to work on them at least 2x a day. If you have time to post on here you are WRONG INDOCTRINATION CANDIDATE (get use to hearing that).

Expect not to sleep the first night because you can still hear the yelling of your fellow INDOCTRINATION CANDIDATES ringing in your ears. You won't be able to shit for 3-4 days. Water, you must hydrate INDOCTRINATION CANDIDATE (better start now). Hard-ons, yeah, not for a month. 5 minute group shower for the men (3 shower heads, 30 guys, do the math).

Oh, and welcome aboard. Make your parents proud.

Have some pride and do not DOR, no one respects a quitter. If Private "Pyle" can make it, so can you. If and when you make it to the fleet, get a LSD for your first tour and go Engineering and get that shit knocked out then pick your poison afterwards.

you guys are right. I am a lazy slob. that's why I joined the military, because I know I need discipline in my life.
since I posted, I've run daily, but it's been bad (slower than usual). I've started doing doubles, run in the morning, swim at night (I used to just run after work, it was easier since I'm "not a morning person", but I think my "biological clock" will get used to getting up and working soon enough). I'm getting way better at swimming, I know I can finish the 500 yd eventually, now I want to be able to do it with just the front crawl (currently alternate between front crawl, and breast stroke when I hit my V02 max until I recover, then back to front crawl)
pushups, I can do 3 sets of 25 now. should I do strength stuff daily? I've noticed improvements when I skip a day or two (to let my muscles rest/repair).
situps, I can do sets of 40 (I've started doing "real" situps- I used to let my shoulders touch the ground, now it's just my shoulder blades)
I haven't celebrated after that night- and even that was lame- a bland steak and I stopped half way through my first drink. probably just nerves

I'm excited, but also very intimidated at the road that lies ahead.
    thanks for the tips everyone!

any tips on diet? 1500 calories? 2500? 5000? mostly protein, carbs? well balanced?
I haven't eaten fast food in ages, nor have I had soda- just water, coffee, and tea.

Enjoy home cooking while you can. Liver and onions during poopie week is hard to swallow.

Keep up the pace. The DIs will cycle you whenever you screw up. Not sure if the class rooms are safe zones, but I saw a LCDR female type drop a class one day. If you get the feeling you're living on the edge and running fast and loose... stand-by there's a DI around the next corner to mash you, turn u into a puddle. I recommend also working on planking, slow push-ups and practice holding at 1/2 way. Start doing flutter kicks and hello dollies.

8 count body builders the week prior and hop and pops. Jumping jacks... lots of gouge just ask.

I had MEPS yesterday, I was 200 in January, I'm down to 175 now. The limit for a 5'9" 25 year old is 186, but I've heard you drop weight like crazy in OCS, so I'm not too worried.
I have terrible depth perception (spending 8-14 hours a day for 2.5 years in a cubicle will do that to you)
It was surreal seeing how many "kids" there are (lots of 18 year olds, some of them shipped out that day!)
