Damn, the strength gains on christophers' base routine have been great, but I've already had to buy a couple of new pairs of pants to fit my fat ass. And I'm also getting more of a double chin too.

Time to hit the stationary bikes for some HIIT, take some Lean Green and CLA, and cut all my food portions down.

Same boat here. I may have put on some fat but I've definitely put on a lot of lean mass I didn't have before.

I would not begin cutting, but I'm on a business trip for 7 more weeks and don't want to have to keep buying bigger clothes and then have boxes to ship back when I'm done with my business trip. I figure when I get back home in 7 weeks I'll go back to bulking again and get back on the Bill Starr strength routine again...it has worked well for me.

I'm gonna keep lifting like I have, just adding in HIIT on my off days. I've also started doing a calesthenics class in the morning twice per week.

I'm wondering if I should get some Ephedrine. :noes:

Have you guys tried bulking clean?? It's not hard to eat 3500+ cals cleanly... throw in 2-3 20 minute cardio sessions a week and you guys should be good, me thinks..

Yes, I was bulking pretty damn clean. Trouble is, I was already a bit overweight to begin with, so it compounded the problem.

Also, my system tends to put on fat rather easily if I don't do any cardio, so ...

most people here blindly follow the advice "eat everything in sight" advice, and they wonder why they get fat. Hint: it's not the routine, it's the diet. You can gain size without becoming fat as hell if you are actually smart about it.

yeah that was my problem when I first starting lifting. I was already fat, so when I started I bulked up :wtf:

Doing this routine approx. 6 weeks, gained 10 lbs.

Gotten compliments that my shoulders look wider, and I can feel more muscle in my chest when I flex. My legs are also bigger-- my jeans fit kinda tight around the legs. :coold:

I lose weight at 3500 calories with no cardio and just lifting.

I put on 30lbs in 5 months. I started at ~15% body fat and now I am probably ~20% bodyfat. My diet did not consist of eating everything in sight and I was putting on about 1 to 2 lbs per week. Started at 180lbs and ended at 210lbs. My guestimates on fat percentage put me at about 27lbs starting and ending at 42lbs for a 15lb fat gain 15lb muscle gain. I'd say those are fairly good results for someone who is "natural" with average genetics. I never did have my bodyfat properly measured and I am guessing solely on my experience having to do "tape tests" on people in the army after physical fitness weigh ins (I did that on every APFT for about 2 years).

As long as you do not equate the routine with your fat gain, this thread is useful. The moment someone links the routine to it, I am sure this will turn into a flamefest (It probably will anyway). Too many people fall into the calorie is a calorie bullshit, without realizing that a macro is not a macro. Protein and carbs contain @ 4cal per gram, where fat contains @ 9cal per gram. Sure you can bulk by eating ice cream, etc and get the calories mostly from carbs/fat, but why not just eat more chicken to make up for it, or something healthier... Damn, the number of these types of threads are ridiculous....

I'm pretty sure most people, when bulking put on a similar amount of fat. I just started from a fairly high bf%. I was never one of those who blamed the routine and as a matter of fact I fully intend to go back to the Bill Starr routine when I bulk again because I had more progress with my lifts doing that routine than the piss poor 3 day split I had before hand (but I'm sure the progress was also related to my bulking at the time). One thing the routine did for me was to give me a good solid consistant program which I could easily follow to keep my work ethic from slipping too much.

Right now I switched up my routine just because I know I won't be able to handle the volume while cutting. If I were at home right now I'd probably still be bulking till I hit 230 and put on even more fat than I currently have.
