So someone asked me today why are different countries ships different shades of grey and why they were grey in the first place. I heard somewhere before it had something to do with climate and blending in with fog but it was all hearsay so I'm wondering if anyone has anything stating why they're grey and why there's different shades for different navy's

Navy ships used to be painted white. However, it does have something to do with making the ship a little harder to see while in the air and looking at them on the horizon. Though..it really doesn't seem to help THAT much.

As for the different shades of gray....I don't know...different paint manufacturers???
