I currently use a wet stone that my father gave me (It's gotta be 50 years old) to sharpen my knives. I am getting sick of using it and I feel it's not working as well as it once did. Do wet stones not work properly once there old?

Anyways, I am looking into buying a new sharpening tool but I don't know what exactly I should look for. In all reality I'd like to spend as little as possible but get the best I can. If there's an option out there that is expensive but is the absolute best way to sharpen then I'd be more than willing to splurge a little.

OT knife crew, help me out :wavey:

I'd just get another wet stone, or a stone that requires honing oil

Or maybe try using honing oil on your current stone

I use a spyderco sharpmaker. Its pretty much idiot proof, and you can put wicked hair popping edge on all kinds of blade shapes. Works really well on serrations as well. Slots for sharpening at 30 and 40 degrees inclusive. Decently priced. I think you can find the kit for under $50 at most online shops.

If you've got a little more money to burn, the EdgePro system is probably the best you can get. I think their kits start out at around $120 though.

Already use oil, or at the very least a little bit of spit :coolugh:

This is one reason I love having a convex edge, it hardly ever seriously dulls, and resharpening takes all of 30 seconds on a strop.

Is it an Arkansas stone? You're only suppose to use water or spit on them, not oil.

The knife I carry has yet to be sharpened and I have carried it for six months or so. I'm just thinking of something that I want for my birthday from my family, and since I don't have a nice sharpener I thought I might ask for one.

Damn, that is fucking sweet! It's in the price range, but I wanted to be able to get a nice hunting knife as well and I think buying that would make it a bit harder to do so.

This seems a little more in my price range, and it actually looks nice. Seems that everyone here likes this style sharpener?
