Shakespeer (DC++ p2p software) works pretty well for me, but whenever I have it running, other internet apps become extremely slow and unresponsive. With a dslreports speed test, my download/upload speeds (in kbps) went from 3582/337 to 103/41 after running shakespeer, and the only activity in Shakespeer was a ~30 KiB/s upload (no downloads).

Any help whatsoever would be appreciated, even network diagnostic apps for OS X. Currently I am directly connected to the cable modem although the behavior was similar behind my router. And I am using active mode.
