What are the chances that Christian Bale took steriods to get as big as he did for Batman after doing the Machinist just a little less than a year later.

    Machinist

It heard he was down to around 120 for The Machinist, and in that picture from batman he's gotta be up around 190. :dunno:

not at all... considering he starved himself to get to the machinest level... all he had to do was lift heavy and eat to get "as big" as he was for batman

The time between the filming of The Machinist and Batman is long enough BUT if you take into account the time between then end of the filming of the Machinist and the audition for Batman then yeah, he probably was on steroid.

So he took like 10 lbs a week during a month and a half. He probably ate like Dave Tate.

The guy was pretty big in American Psycho and that was like 3-4 years before he even dieted for the machinist.

    I dunno, muscle memory perhaps?

Ok, he gained 60lbs in a month and a half. 10lbs a week.

Then he continues to bulk all the way to 210, at least, over a period of 5 months, which is another 30lbs. Total is about 90lbs in just over 6 months. Thats on average a gain of nearly 4lbs/week, OF PURE LBM judging from that picture of him.

Starvation or not, I would be highly suprised if a human could produce even test to produce on average 4lbs of LBM/week for over 6 months straight.

If you take into account fat gain, even if he gained only a .5lb of fat for every 1lb of muscle, then he would still have needed to gain a full 135lbs in just over 6 months, and then cut 30-40lbs of that. I would love to see a human do that without roids. If Bale did it then props to him, but I think its pretty much not within the realm of possibility.

Maybe he didnt, but I thought muscle development was limited by hormones rather than things like trainers and pure time spent in the gym.

I mean, I'm sure there are certain foods more condusive to hypertrophy, but I honestly don't think even a great diet + great routine + 110% effort can give you 4lbs/week lbm.

Not that I'm dissing the guy, roids or not its an amazing accomplishment, and he looked fantastic.

muscle memory definitely played a big part but most likely some steroids involved as well.

either way, there is no way to know for sure so i dunno how the bet is gonna get settled :dunno:
