what display does that have? The brighter, higher res ones released a couple months ago? Either way, I would still be getting the core duo instead. :/

How often are you going to move it? The 17" would be great for leaving on your desk, etc., but you wouldn't want to move it a bunch because of size.

I'd probably just go with the MacBook Pro for $2000.

I move it pretty often. Comes to jobs with me, travel with it.. It's big, but I *LOVE* the big screen, and its supposed to be fairly light for size.

I could settle for 15" though, its what I use now.. And yes, AppleCare is available.

The 15" can be had for 500 less or so.. hmmm.

The intel chip aint worth it. Theres been a couple problems with them, plus the powerpc chip still outperforms it. The only reason its "Core duo" is so it can keep up with it. The real mac architecture is still ftw. Give it a while until either a) intel takes over the mac market or b) powerpc chip stays afloat and still kills intel.

Save the money and put it towards a cinema display.

As long as the PBs have a 167MHz memory bus, they will lag in performance. Apple would be stupid to continue development on the G4 platform at this point.

That is one of the dumbest posts I've ever read. :slap: :ugh:

The G4s used in the Powerbooks are seriously dated and slow even in the PPC family. And what in the fuck are you trying to say with the engrish "the only reason its 'Core duo" is so it can keep up with it"??

I'm tempted to just prune you and be done with it all. :eek3:

The buy the 15" PB. I've got one and while I love the computer there is no way I'd want to try to move around a 17" regularly. Look for the RevE 15" PB if you can find it refurbed because it's got the higher resolution display, faster memory, etc.

Did you hear that Intel is about to re-introduce the Pentium Pro architecture?? Sure its over 8 years old and never even hit 500Mhz, but its "the real PC architecture". :barf:

17" is too big, 15" is just right. Refurbished ones come with the same warranty as a new one I believe. I'd get the Macbook over the older powerbook, but thats because its new, faster and is getting supported quicker than I expected.

lol I work for apple at minacs in saskatoon.

By what I said about intel I was talking about a single core intel chip could not even compare to a ppc chip, go look at benchmarks before you critisize. Macs arent meant for gaming platforms anyways, the ppc out performs it in almost everything. ill find a link to shut you up

http://www.apple.com/powermac/performance/ <-- what we directly use as comparison
    http://www.macspeedzone.com/archive/4.0/g4vspent3signal.html <-- old school g4's vs p3
    http://www.jdstaples.com/pdfs/PowerPCvsPentium.pdf <--- 1996 comparison
http://www.barefeats.com/pentium4.html <-- and finally to shut you noobs up

    Thanks.

EDIT: I run a p4 at home though, not too imperssed anyways
