When you're already calorie restricted, drinking 400 calories a day makes the hunger that much worse.

So I'm thinking about substituting my post-workout shake (400 cals, 50g protein, 50g malto) for just a regular meal (ideally low-fat, high carb) of about the same calories. I figure I always eat a 600 calorie whole food meal before working out, so most of those nutrients are still in my blood/being digested by the time I'm done working out. So I don't really see the need for a huge insulin spike post-workout.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone done it? Any good post-workout meals people have found? For as long as I've lifted, I've done a post-workout shake instead of whole food. :dunno:

I've never done the whole shake thing, even when bulking

pre workout, I'll just drink around 35 oz of low fat milk

post workout, just a bit fucking meal

I'd say it'd be much mroe satisfying eating a meal instead of a shake and it won't make any difference if the macro nutrients are the same.

I used to eat something like 8oz of steak or chicken w/ 1 cup of rice postworkout. I just drink a shake and a Gatorade now because I have a 25 minutes drive before I get home, plus I'm usually thirsty anyways.

I eat a decent sized meal plus one or two "slimfast" for extra cals.....and I like the taste.

Same here. Drinking something that tastes nasty only makes me more hungry.

I drink a chocolate slimfast everyday for an extra small meal. They have a decent amount of nutrients and taste great, plus they're already mixed. Seems like all that sugar wouldn't be good for the fatso's though.

That's like saying tuna is pointless because you can eat chicken. It's not pointless... it's just not a necessity.

I usually go with some chicken or tuna and a gatorade (made from powder not the sucrose pre-bottled stuff). Sometimes I'll pick up a tendergrill sandwitch from BK if I know it is going to be awhile before I finally get home.
