i used to lift weights, never really got much enjoyment from it....got bigger, but was never satisfied.

so my question is....why do people lift weights if they're not competing for anything. i mean, you can say 'it gives me confidence when i look better' but for the most part i read threads explaining how you're not satisfied with a certain muscle group. furthermore, lets say you do get big and broly....eventually your gonna lose that mass, isn't that kind of depressing?

i just dont see the point in lifting 4 to 5 times a week if your not in a sport or bodybuilding, etc. if your gonna spend all that time and effort working your body like that, i feel its absurd not to put it to use in some sort of competitive sport.

do any of you guys question yourselves on WHY you lift?

Why do people run, or play sports, or do anything? I mean its all so pointless we should just lay in bed all day and jerk off.

people tell me i look good for someone who's been working out for 16 months. guess some of them remember me when i was chubby and sht. had high cholesterol too.

i run too but i like my legs to be a bit bigger then girls i date, hahahahahaha, so i do squats/deads

plus with running if you don't keep running eventually your gonna lose that speed too

This is going to be a fun thread..

I work out for the self confidence, and good health. Before hand, I was nearly obese @ almost 250lbs. I was sick 3 or 4 times a year, etc etc and all the shit that comes along with being fat.

I lost the weight, gaining strength and self confidence, as well as a positive healthy outlook on life. Everyday I get up, look in the mirror, smile, and go about my day in a positive mood - excited and looking forward to getting in the gym again later that afternoon. I'm enjoying learning about my body and what it can and can't do, and learning how to manipulate it based on diet, etc etc.

The compliments from people who have watched my transition definitely help.

I'd love to get to a point of competing - but until then, I'll enjoy the progress I make weekly and see what happens.

    .

I fell good about myself after working out, I actually enjoy being in the gym too. When I have to miss a day because of work or something, I'm unhappy about it. I wasnt always like that, but now after having some big body composition changes I realize that I only have two choices; Getting in shape, or getting out of shape. There is no middle ground and I like the way I feel, look, and am treated as I progress twards my ultimate goal.

holllly shit.... I can't believe I found it. This is a post from a year ago:

i train to be strong for the same reason I played football for 13 years... i love it. pussies like you sit there and would rather talk to your friends when i'm busting my ass for 2 straight hours. people like you don't even break a sweat when in the gym for an hour. i love the look on scrawny bitches faces when they see me pulling 25 pounds of chain out of my bag and slapping it on the bar. when they see me pulling 2x6's out of my bag. the look on every persons face who is a regular at my schools gym when I am repping on bench what they rep for squats. for the feeling I get when I break a PR - or when i'm coming back off a TKD and I hit 4 plates again. when I feel like im gonna puke after the last rep of the last set. when my nose bleeds when I'm pulling. for that one day that happens every so often, when the planets align and you are totally unstoppable in the gym. for the look in my eyes when i finish that last heavy set. when people that are 20 years older than me step out of my way whenever I walk around the gym. when i hear people talking about me around the water fountain. when my friends who werent in the gym know i was benching a house because their friends told them about it. when i shake someones hand and they feel the calluses built up from the hours i put in every week. and why the fuck wouldnt you want to be strong? what kind of woman wants a scrawny little faggot escorting her around.

To update that... its about 125lbs of chain now

I don't think you're necessarily reffering to aerobic capacity... but aerobic capacity apparently diminishes quite rapidly. Moreso than strenght IIRC.

Maybe because you will only have one body and your health should be one of the most important things in your life. Personally i think that its fun to lift weights, break barriers and achieve goals.

I agree. Feel it every time I skipped a day or two. Gonna have a blast when I start running again after my knee heals. :wtc:

Oh, a friend that holds track records for FSU says the same.

    Werd.

2 years ago I was 5'11"ish, 145lbs and fucking ripped. I had a damn 8pack for fucks sake. Since then I have gained around 90lbs, lost the 8pack, gotten a lot stronger and fucked hotter bitches as I progressively gained weight. Was it because I was bigger, or did the confidence I gained make up for my lack of abs? I don't know, all I now is I like getting bigger and fucking hot bitches so who know what kind of hotness I will be fucking when I hit 300!!

I lift, because i like to.. i dont like to lift light.. i tried it. I go to lift heavy. Why? because its who i am. Im addicted to it. To the steel, the pain.. the suffering, the achievment of moving 500lbs and being natural.
I like waking up a day or 2 later and hurting, and knowing its a good hurt.

I like blowing my own personal records out the water.. i like it when the gym hoppers stop and stair with disgust as i knock out another heavy set, as they are stuck with their pathetic 50lbs bench...

i like being a freak.. that is all.

I lift b/c if i don't i know i'm going to turn into my old figure and i don't want that. It's almost like a disease. Pumping iron is cure but if i stop, that disease is going to take over my body.
