So about a month ago my desktop just quit all together. Pressing the power woudl get it to turn on, the screen would stay black for about 5 seconds then it would power itself off. So, I was thinking hardware issue. I read about it some and I ordered a new motherboard and ram and put that in there. The problem is still there. Now I get to the screen where it tells me windows was not shut down properly and gives you the choices of how you want to boot. No matter which I choose, it restarts, only to return to that screen. I am running Windows XP Home with SP2 installed. Also, booting with my Windows XP disc in the drive changes nothing.

Dual hard drives, one 160gb, one 80 gb.

    ATI Radeon 9800 pro.

    Asus P4P800SE motherboard

    1gb Corsaire DDR 400 RAM

Intel Pentium 4 2.4 ghz CPU socket 478

Try booting from windows xp disk if you can get into the BIOS. and then try repairing windows. I dont know what else to tell you if it just powers up and shuts off even with new motherboard, ram, and power supply.

Yeah, try reinstalling Windows. I've noticed twice now that Windows has had a little trouble when a new motherboard is installed.
