    This is an oddball question.

I've read that the 9 pin serial port on computers supplies 5VDC. Can this be switched off and on programmatically? I'd like to use it as a simple trigger. I know you can do this with the parallel port, but I have a printer plugged into mine.

Buy another parallel port card. They are $10-15. Serial isn't really suitable for this. I had to do this to run multiple parallel port relay boards to throw many switches via a scripting engine for a testing automation system I once built.

Its harder to get it to hold a signal. It wants to pulse.
