So I have a buddy that's just starting to go through school to become a SERE instructor. Ive had a few classes on it in the past, but nothing more. Im just curious as to what you actually have to do/ how hard it is, etc. Have any of you guys been through it? Do they torture your ass or what? I wanna know how much props Im gonna have to give my buddy for this shit:rofl: How does it compare to say USMC boot?

i watched a few episodes of a discovery channel thing on SERE school...they were following an Air Force group going through it.

for some reason they made it out to be a lot easier than i would think SERE school is supposed to be.

but its TV, and im sure they cant show EVERYHTING

  3. There used to be different SERE schools ones were harder ones weren't but I'm not really sure. I'm sure barackac could comment but I think what goes on there is supposed to be kept secret.

Over the years it seems to have been "dumbed" down, from an outside observers perspective. I see so many retards walking around with aircrew pin (SERE is a prereq to aircrew) that I don't see how it could be anything like when my dad went through in the 80's.

I know someone who says their shins were bashed in while they were at SERE, and that they usually treat women the worst there. And they can only break fingers now apparently. :dunno:

it's a shame too. that school is supposed to be "it" for survival. I think the problem is obviously one being the military is getting softer every year, and two, the quality of "recruit" for jobs that require SERE school have gone down. You get hurt in a way you feel wasn't required, you go tell on your instructor, media finds out, military gets bashed. All those drill sergeants you saw on TV over the years that got in trouble for "beating" their divisions.

brackac, you wanna chime in? Though you might have went, can't remember.

Anyways supposedly he's has to eat a rabbits eyeball here in a couple days. If he doesn't keep it down he fails. This is what his wife tells me as he gets very little free time to talk so he talks to his wife not me.

there are different levels of sere and it depends on what your job is as to what sere school you will go to. A pilot or SF go to a much more intensive course then the basic one which is basically just a survial course. There are alot of rumors and alot of secrets. If you want to know, ask someone that went. And as far as how hard it is, it's really tough, especially mentally.

Completely different from what I went through. The Army SERE-C is geared towards Aviators and SF troops that may become POW's, so it is structured more towards behavior in captivity.

They don't waterboard anymore, which is a good thing.

What class did you start right after SERE? I thought there was another long wait between SERE and aeromed?
