So I've been contemplating getting my septum pierced lately and I've just been curious about something. If I get it pierced, can I flip it up while it's healing? I work retail and don't want it to be shown during work. I figured I could get a septum retainer, but I want to make sure it's ok to get it pierced and start flipping it up. Also, has anyone had any issues with getting stuffy noses a lot when it's flipped up a lot? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes you can flip it up while it's healing. No it shouldn't affect your sinus's at all, and I haven't noticed any difference at all.

I'd be sure to remove any discharge from the retainer before flipping it up and try not to do it too often.

If I were to keep it flipped up while it's healing with out flipping it back down a lot, should it be fine?

Awesome. Now it's a matter of what size I want to get it done at. I think I'll stick with either 14 or 12. Any insight?

be careful where it is placed... i had mine done with intentions of flipping it up but it was placed too centered in my septum and the jewelry was too long to flip up... make sure its placed fairly far forward towards the tip of your nose so itll flip up smoothly

had to take mine out :hs:

you can usually just bend them too but a really long one might get in the way. I healed mine with a retainer and it was no problem. if you're going with a larger size like 6g you might want to use o-rings to keep it in. I wear a silicone plug in mine now which is much more comfortable. a metal retainer in 2g would be a little large anyway :o

Nah, not looking to go that big at this point. I'm thinking I'll get it pierced at 12 gauge. I can't wait!

good luck, my eyes watered like a bitch when I got it done but overall the pain isn't bad at all. I got mine done at 12g as well, its a good starting point but I think 8g looks better for a smaller size.

stretching is what kills me, when the jewelry rubs against the cartilage in my nose its like a dull aching pain for days. I think I've actually eroded a small chunk of my septum to make room for my piercing.

I dont want to hijack, but I figured I would try in this thread before I made a new one..

Is there any kind of plug available for a lip piercing that is made to hold / hide a lip piercing? Maybe that's tapered towards the middle or something, I dont know. Not just a plastic straight plug with orings that will stick out.

what size? if its a larger piercing check out http://kaossoftwear.com/

they make hider plugs and other silicone eyelets/plugs. you could always trim one end off of a hider plug. I think the smallest they make is 10g though.

Just got home. Did it at 12g. Wanted to do something black, but didn't have anything in stock. Probably going to go swap it out in the next couple weeks or so.
