I guess the thread title says it all, was just wondering what the most effective way of targeting British visitors in search engines would be.

ie.: show up in google.co.uk as opposed to .com

    -Localized content
    -Having a .co.uk domain helps
-Having your server based there (or a GB IP)
-Links from other sites listed on the google.co.uk serp

Yeah I figured so much, to be honest off that list the only thing that I'll be able to accomplish is the GB IP.

Have you ever heard of GeoURL?

I do nothing differently, and pretty much rank across the board (all google extensions, which was nice with one site, because I ended up getting shit fuck loads and converting traffic from google.co.uk

I took the same keywords, and bought a couple co.uk's and ranked them to #1 on local search (basically no comp.), but what I found out was that the traffic was not there for strictly co.uk searches. Since it automatically searches the entire web automatically... the co.uk was pointless (in my eyes, for my sites)

    Also try this:
    - Submit the site to British directories (not like www.usaforlife.com/countries/Britain, but more like www.britishlol.co.uk/subcategory)
    - Do some link trading with other British sites.
    - Do SEO keyword research for google.co.uk as their keywords rankings are different thatn google.com (i.e. "lol sucks" in USA, where "lol is rubbish" in Britain or whatever they use).

    Good luck.
