Sennheiser HD 580 or Ultrasone HFI-650? Just like the topic says. I need a good headphone for recording and mixing music, as well as wearing around listening to music. Both will cost me approx $200.

Pros: Great reviews from everywhere. Sennheiser name. Comfortable
    Cons: Big headphones. Non-folding. Open.

    Ultrasone HFI-650's

    Pros: Folding. Smaller. Sealed.
Cons: I've never personally heard of the company. Never tried on a pair.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on either of em? Thanks.

The 580's hands down. I own the HD-600's and they are wonderfull headphones, and the HD-580's sound basically the same.

I have never heard of the Ultrasone brand though.

Yeah, neither had I. But I sincerely trust the company that carries them. They only pass products they use and like. I'm leaning toward the 580's the more I think about it. I really wish they were folding though.

I have the Sennheiser RS-85 Wireless Headphones. I have tried the HD-580's and they were nice too. I just went for the Wireless option for convenience...

you could get the DVD version of the ultrasones... alot more bassy and aggressive...

have you considered some alternatives from beyerdynamics? I think beyers sound ALOT better than sennheisers...

perhaps the DT770pro or non pro

    Non pro : http://www.beyerdynamic.com/com/product/sheets/d846.php3

For music LISTENING, definetely open hps.. I have a pair of DT531 that I use for general music listening (amazing), but I also use them for recoring and listening to my synth kit.

    ;)

Or even better still - a studio oriented open headphone - The DT990pro and DT990
