and i will send them back to you with a $10 starbucks gift card (or something else if i have it here).

This is the deal the 10.4 discs with my imac wont load on this little ibook (came with 10.3) i bought for work and with leopard just around the corner i really dont feel like buying another copy of tiger.

anyone feel like spreading some holiday generosity and having a couple cups of coffee on me.

apparently the disks are specific to certain computers. i tried reinstalling osx onto my imac intel core duo using the cd's from my newer imac core2duo and it didn't work.

that is true of the ones that come with computers, however if anyone went down to their local apple store and bought universal discs those work on any system.

I got around this w/an iBook I got for free. I target booted the iBook and plugged it into my G5. I then ran the 10.4 installer off the G5 and told it to install onto the iBooks drive.

i think i have heard of people doing this before. my only concern is that my imac is intel and my ibook is PPC.

It should have the UB version of OSX on there. The worse it would do is tell you no.

Any luck with my suggestion? It would be your quickest solution with minimal risk.

the retail copy of tiger is not a Universal Binary... every machine w/ an intel chip has shipped w/ tiger so there's not currently a reason to offer an intel version of it.

you need to call applecare and get the specific build for your machine sent out
