Selling my laptop-can someone pull up my old deleted info?

Discussion in 'OT Technology' started by The Professor, May 12, 2007.

  1. I REALLY don't want to just reinstall windows. For one - it sucks, and I'm no good with computers. Two - I want to keep some software on there like MS Office and dont have all of the cds for it. Is there a way that the person I sell it to can dig up old personal information from it?

Yes, they can unless you run a program like dban which will wipe out everything. You'd have to reload Windows, drivers, apps, afterward.

IIRC once the information has been written over 32/36 times, then it's gone for good. I'm sure there are programs to do that, but more than likely, they cost money.
