I know I'll be losing a couple of stops, and I don't need the extra reach thaaaaaat much.

VRII is apparently pretty spiffy, a mode for handheld shots as well as out of a moving vehicle (which I do a lot). Another big thing for me is build quality- As some of you Tammy owners know, it isn't on par with Nikon glass.

A little wider, and that's good in my books.

    Any input guys?

Oh yeah, my buddy is going to be picking up my Tamron for 350, so I'd only be losing 50 bucks. I've had it for a little over a month.

I personally wouldnt change from a 2.8 lens to a variable 3.5 and up lens, seems like you're just taking a step backwards

I wouldn't go from the 17-55 to the 16-85 unless you need the money. However, I can see going from the 17-55 to the Tamron 17-50 and not being horribly disappointed.

I went from a 17-50 Tamron 2.8F to "the" 18-200 which is a 3.5 variable with VRII and I could not have been happier with my choice.

Anything over the 100 I use a different lens for normally, unless I am just out walking around.
