I'm considering selling my 18-200 VR and getting:

    1) Tokina 12-24
    2) Tamron 28-75 f/2.8

    What do you think?

A lot of my shooting (especially over the summer) is landscape photography which is why Im really wanting something wider and I think that the 28-75 would just be a great walk around lens.

The longer focal distance on the 18-200 is really handy a lot though so its a tough call. I know eventually I want to get a 70-200 VR f/2.8 which would pretty much cover everything I want but I'm not sure if its worth it?

    What do you guys think?

I for one love my 12-24. Why don't you just save up for a 12-24 and keep the 18-200? You have all the ranges covered then.

True. I dunno what I would do. I've never used an 18-200 so I can't say if I'd rather have my current 70-200 VR + Tokina 12-24 or the 18-200. Probably my current.

the tokina 12-24 is a great lens! the 18-200 is a great multi-purpose lens but if you don't need that range and would benefit from the f/2.8 more (28-75), then sell it.

You won't like the 28mm on a 1.5x crop body for landscape photography. it might make your horizons straighter but it won't be wide enough. 12-24 +1

    I know....

I would be getting the 28-75 AND the 12-24.

The 12-24 would be used for landscape and the 28-75 would be used for portraits/walk around.

    If you insist on f/2.8:
    1. Tokina 16-50 (not shipping yet)
    2. Tokina 50-130 (not shipping yet)
    or
    1. Sigma 18-50
    2. Sigma 50-150

    If money is no object:
    1. Nikon 12-24
    2. Nikon 17-55
    3. Nikon 70-200

    If f/2.8 is not necessary:
    1. Tokina 12-24 or Sigma 10-20
    2. Nikon 18-70
    3. Nikon 70-300VR (not yet shipping)

Tamron 17-50 f2.8 FTW -- i don't think you'd miss the long end of the Tamron 28-75f/2.8 very much.

I know but he is looking at superwide angle lenses. Besides, it's under "money no object" category.

    1. Want something longer
    2. Want something in a more useable range....i.e.28-75

    same for the next 2

money is an object. rules out next three

f/2.8 is the main reason I would be selling the 18-200 so......
    1) Would be getting the 12-24 (even though its not 2.8) along with the 28-75
    2) already had it.....got the 18-200 VR to upgrade. not interested in downgrading.
    3) not the range im looking for.

12-24 is my fav lens right now. the extra 2mm or so is useful. i dont really like the 28-75 on a crop body. plus the tamron feels kinda cheap after getting the tokina. and tamron focusing isn't all that great either.

Then you pretty much know what you're going to get.
There should be a lot of used tamron 28-75 around. They're getting rid of it for the exact opposite reason why you want it. 28-75 is not as versatile in a dig camera (equivalent to 42-112mm fov) unless your main subjects are portraits.
