Should the slide automatically drop froward if a magazine is slammed in?

Casually, it wont. But if I slam the fresh magazine, it will slide forward without use of the slide release and automatically chamber a round.

When I first started using the pistol, I was alot more timid about it than I am now, and it never did this.

sounds to me like something is loose/worn down. I would strip the gun and figure out what is wrong :dunno:

Just stripped it, looked at everything -- nothing looks worn.

I did however install an extended slide release a few weeks ago, but that was a pretty much no brainer.

I would say try putting the OEM slide release on, and see if it still does it. If not, then you know what the problem is.

both of my glocks...hell, most of my (non rimfire) pistols all did this from the first day I bought them. I believe it is normal, if you really slam the mag home.

I think when you slam the mag in, it just bumps the piece that holds the slide back when the mag is empty.

I've been screwing around with it a bit, and if the mag is empty it'll never self release.

    Full magazine that's slammed will.

Just making sure it wasn't a part that was failing or anything. *shrug*

no part is failing when you slam the mag home theres enough pressure to release the slide

My 31 does this with a loaded mag when I slam it in good, and it isn't even close to worn out. Has less than 1K rounds through it.

An old 4506 and my LW Commander are the only two autos I've never been able to get to "slamload".

My Glock and USP always do it, SIGs do it sometimes.

Not really a feature, but it is normal if you are seating the mag with manly firmness.

It's happened to me with an academy-issued G17...probably not supposed to happen per-se but doesn't seem all that abnormal. The pistol(s) I used weren't hardly worn at all, maybe a year or two old, only a couple thousand or so rounds, not much abuse, so it's probably normal, if you're really smacking the mag home.
    Don't worry about it.

I took my slide catch off. I know when the gun is empty by weight, and the way the slide feels when it goes forward empty

    That's not a bug, it's a feature!

    USPs do it too.

I wouldn't call it a feature, it's just the way it is.
