First one I've done :dunno: I was really bored and a slightly toasted last night, so I decided to try my hand at a self portrait. However, I had no off-camera lighting and didn't feel like pulling out the tripod... so I looked at myself in the mirror in the bathroom and pointed the camera for my face, hoping for a good focal point lol. Finally got one that focused on my eye! Decided to try out some PP...

-edit- sorry, pic didn't work the first time

    you're quite the ginger.

but jokes aside, i think it's a great picture. Let's see it in B&W :x:

It's not a good angle for a portrait any way you slice it, especially when you have such.. sizable pores and the way the hoodie blends with your hair. You over POTNed your eye. I understand your desire to want to employ the DOF of your lens, but it rarely works out in SP, close down and get your whole melon in focus and use a smooth background.

When sharpening, go back and mask out your facial hair/eyebrows/lashes, they looks gross when oversharpened.

    awesomest advice evar. thanks

the plan was never to smooth my skin or anything like that. It was just me, stoned, dirty, hadn't showered in over a day, tired. TBH, I'm just trying to get this most out of a pic that was never seriously taken in the first place... I definitely will redo with better lighting and angles

lol I'm actually not a ginger - my beard just has some red hair in it. My head and body hair everywhere else is brown :dunno: I do have ginger blood in me though :mamoru:

Well you nailed the shot you were trying to get since you where doing it from a mirror:) You could make a layer mask to brighten your whites I guess.

I guess I was sort of going for a dingy, grungy, dirty PP feel... and big pores lulz. that's why the other one was sharpened too much - because I was trying to accentuate the dirtiness of my face lol and it made the hair look nappy
