I need to do Research and report on the security mechanisms
used in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. I know there are quite a few IT experts on here, so I would appreciate it if you guys could point on some good sites to get information from.

    Thanks

any other recommendations? on top of the info, i also need to incorporate diagrams, illustrations, graphs...etc. so if you guys know of any sites that contain these items for SSL that would be great.

Google is your friend. I found that above link in a quick "SSL protocol" search.

You should be able to find tons of info on SSL, you just need to dig a little. Also keep in mind where SSL is used. Actually researching on how you get an SSL certificate might yield some interesting information if not at least how SSL is setup/configured.

You might find it interesting to find out how long it takes currently to hack 48bit SSL and 128bit SSL.

If you can get the O'Rielly guide to SSL (I'm pretty sure there is one), it probably goes through the whole protocol step-by-step. I have their guide to email protocols, it's really good.
