As you begin this transformation process, I want you to become hyper-aware of the people around you. It's often said that we are a combination of the five people that surround us most. I think there's a lot of truth to this.

In short, hang around failures and they'll rub off on you. Hang around achievers and the same thing will happen. One study I recall looked at dozens of different factors: socioeconomic status, education level, ethnic background, etc. What they found was that success or failure depended much more on the type of people who surrounded you than any of those other factors.

nah. I guess shit happens. I pulled something in my back picking some 80's up a few years ago. It hurt like hell. But I'm not a bitch and didn't go crying to the ER.

I don't give a flying flip about your PR unless you're a powerlifter or strength athlete who makes a living at it. You're fat, you're going to die of something caused by or exacerbated by your fatnness, your goal is fat loss, so what's up with the "I bench XYZ."

The kicker is that their bench is going to suffer. Why? Because 1) a strict fat loss diet isn't usually conducive to setting PRs. 2) If you drop 40 pounds, your chest and back are going to be leaner and thus bar travel will increase!

Not many people think about the latter point. Good powerlifting coaches even teach you to bunch up the muscle and fat on your back so you'll shorten the range of motion of the bench press. Less fat = more bar travel = a smaller bench press.

Of course, less fat also = longer life and more athletic sex with better quality women.

But what else happens as you drop that 40 pounds of worthless lard? Your pull-ups increase. Your dipping "strength" goes up. You can walk upstairs without huffing and puffing.

Too bad powerlifting doesn't have a pull-up event. We might see fewer wheezing land whales who won't ever meet their grandkids.

Ive tweaked my neck and back before doing that shit. I find that if i roll up a towel, put it behind my neck, and then make sure my head is pressing firmly against the bench i feel much better and can actually do more reps. Give it a shot next time.

I think I sat down picked them up and might have arched my back on accident. IDK for sure. It was just a muscle pull but its a bad one. I couldnt stand upripght. I collapsed in the shower a few times. couldnt put my sweat pants or sock on without extreme pain. i couldnt even find a way to lie down without smasmic pain pulses coming up and down my back. it also caused shortness of breath. I asked my dad if he had drugs for it, hes a retired doctor and he didnt want to give me any narcotics kuz im related to him and thats kind of a no-no
