I am still dumbfounded by the way Sherk fought against BJ Penn.

Where was the Sherk we all love (or hate)? The relentless takedowns, never stopping, always going. I was expecting a ground war, BJ Penn, one of the greatest ground fighters to compete in MMA and Sean Sherk, one of the most aggressive takedown artists in MMA.

What we saw was a timid version of Sherk, he thought he was winning the stand up but even then, why didn't he go for the takedowns with set ups from his punches? Sure he was trying to tire out BJ Penn by striking for a couple rounds and then go for takedowns but he never really used this strategy before unless he was outclassed and had no choice (GSP). He tried going for like two takedowns but those were half assed takedowns compared to what he has done before, he has great double legs but went for single legs which he knew BJ Penn could get out of.

I would like to see a rematch, not now, maybe next year or two but I would honestly like to see a rematch. I just wanted to see a war on the ground with two guys who are polar opposites when it comes grappling and it would've been great to watch.

This is true. As much as I am happy about the whole fight, it wasnt the fight I expected to watch.

I am happy that BJ won but I'm also a Sherk fan, I just wasn't impressed by this fight.

yea I kind of wish sherk threw a couple combos and kept going for takedowns. who gives a shit if that's what bj trained for, defending takedowns is what tires people, not jabs :( I was kind of disappointed

might have been ring rust I mean he hasn't stepped in the cage in 6 months, that might have had something to do with it. Also he might have been juice free lol

maybe he needed to weeee-eeeez the juuuu--uuuice

but I don't' think it was ring rust. before penn caught jens he had like 10 months off and that didn't' matter for him.

Anyone can see it was a fixed fight...they don't want a champion that tested positive for steroids. Look what they did to Josh Barnett, this was the nice way of stripping Sherk of his title. Had Sherk not taken a dive he would've smashed BJ into a fine pulp.

That's kind of what he mentioned what his plan was in the post-fight.

I was also baffled by this. He only attempted two take-downs that I noticed, and quickly gave them up after BJ resisted. I can understand his game plan being to take the fight into the later rounds and hope BJ becomes gassed, but eating jabs for 3 rounds isn't exactly the best way to tire BJ out.

    BJ >>>>>> Sherk

he knew BJ could defend his takedowns all day long so he tried to stand with him and just got picked apart, sherk is just not as well rounded and gifted fighter as BJ is

He didn't eve push the pace on the feet. He tried to counter BJ's jab with a left hook which is a little :hsugh:

Well try to take down BJ Penn and then you might rethink things. Matt Hughes could not do it..only until BJ ran completely out of life. Sherk was obvisioly planning on wearing Penn out before he went in for the kill. Joke was on him though
