One of our clients has a 4/8 GB tape drive, and we need to install a 12/24GB tape drive cause he's is FUBAR'ed, will the 4/8 drive tapes work with the new 12/24 machine? I have no model number for the 4/8 machine so please don't ask.

    Thanks

Without any model numbers can't answer.

Could be two completely different type of tape technologies...

    i.e. Taravan TR-4's vs 4mm DDS3

Maybe, but as Mike, stated, with out the type of tape and model number of the newer drive no one will know until you try it.

Most newer/faster drives using the same technology are backwards read/write compatible to a degree. Moreso for reading though.

Thanks guys, the client is closed today for some unknown freakin reason so we cant get a hold of him, and our prior record keeping of these details is god awful, so i'll try and keep you guys up-to-date, i can at least get you the info on which tapes he is/was using ..... if he answers the phone.

    Thanks
