So I recently bought a 22" SAMSUNG 2253BW to connect with my 20" imac.

Everything has worked great, except when I put it in screensaver mode every now and then the screen has weird lines (see image below).

Does this have somethign to do with the graphics card in my imac? How about the aftermarket mini dvi cable?
Also at times my samsung display will randomly go black, and I will have to turn it back on :ugh:, but that only happened twice

    Any help appreciated

definitely a graphics chipset issue. After you resume using the computer afterwards is everything fine?

Yes, that only happens when the screensaver is on, and it is every now and then. It doesn't always happen

The easy solution is to never use a screen saver. They're a waste of time anyway, because LCDs don't get burn-in like CRTs do, and for LCDs they're actually worse in the long-term than turning the screens off completely because the backlight has to stay on while the screen saver is active. Better to just shut them off when you're not using it.

I guess, but who's to say that he won't have trouble in the future? If he is getting that crap just running a screensaver, it will probably happen again doing something else.

It does sound like a driver glitch, but has it ever happened without the screen saver turning on? If not, then there's probably just an incompatibility between the video driver and that one specific screen saver. I wouldn't worry about it spreading -- not that you can do anything about it anyway, though, since you don't control either piece of software.

nope, it has only done it with the screensaver.

I said in the original post that the monitor at times has just turned off, but that has only happened twice and I'm thinking because of the GFX card...if it keeps happening I will call samsung to see if its a problem with the monitor or the imac

It clearly has something to do with the iMac, because the weird effect is happening on both screens.

Take it the Apple Store if it's still under warranty or you have AppleCare. I think there have been graphics issues with some iMacs that required a motherboard swap.
