There was a scope suggested in WMD previously that was highly regarded. I believe the word "sniper" was in its name, can anyone point me in the right direction? IIRC it wasn't super expensive either.

    ya, that's it. thanks. :)

Eek, their magnification is much stronger than what I need. Any suggestions for 4x and under?

Plinking, for out to 50 yards. :wtc::wtc: Do not have access to outdoor range.

probly something in the elcheapo range unless its for an AR then you could go aimpoint or eotech and even jump on the magnifier route.

I've heard those beryl mounts are pretty solid with an aimpoint on them, also I think there a conversion you can do to the mount where the rear screw goes into a metal base instead of the wood stock.

So the rail (on the gun) holds the mount, and the mount holds the ring, and the ring holds the scope?

How do I know what size ring I need for any given scope I'm interested in?

First, as it is a fixed power. Fixed powers are FFP by nature.

Think about it, and it should make sense.

SFP is what most people are used to when they think of magnified optics. FFP has been the new hotness in certain LR disciplines for quite some time.

SFP scopes abound. I like Leupy stuff a lot, and think highly of NF products if you have a little more $$ to spend. What kinda dough you looking to throw out? A pard might have a MK4 4.5x14x40 that he might let go (I mention it, because he got it for a steal and might get rid of it cheap).

I was actually just looking that scope :o What price :x:

Money depends on how much I get back
    VA owes me 1k
    Friend owes me 2.5k
    Taxes 2.5k

So depends on how long all of them take to get back

Dunno. I'll see him this weekend so shoot me a PM Friday-Saturdayish to remind me. I was with him last weekend and he said something about getting rid of it for a 3.5x10 version.

Ya, I tried but shooting at a 3 inch circle at 50 yard then focusing on the front site makes me completely lose the sight of my target. It aint' even fuzzy at that point. :wtc:

I should try making a different target, a 5 inch circle with inside all filled in black. Then check my hits with my spotting scope.

Mounting magnified glass to an AK would seem like an exercise in futility IMO.

Why not get one of those LaRue mounts + mini-dot? Seems like it might be a pretty trick setup for an AK, especially at 50 yds.

Hey phrozen, do you find the NF rets to be too fine (the R1 or R2)?

I like everything else about the NF over a Leup except for the reticle. The TMR just seems much more user-friendly.

I'm trying to decide between a Leup 4.5-14 or a similarly powered NF, likely 5.5-22

    get new targets.
    or new glasses.

line up the front, rear and target, then switch focus to front sight and slowly squeeze. if you're doing everything right it shouldnt deviate much from where you're aiming.

They flutter. Apparently since there is no manual brightness setting on the Burris (only auto-sensing), varying lighting can trick them into "pulsing" or even dimming out to the point of being virtually off.

Kobra or Ultimak/Aimpoint are still where it's at for AK optics.
