Why would one buy this over anything else in its class, and why is everyone jocking it so hard?

Lots of good options for dirt cheap, plus it's a Toyota.

It doesn't seem to have anything that a comparable Mazda doesn't, plus the Mazda would likely be sportier, better looking, and cost about the same.

Mazda everything else > the rest of that Toyota

I've been in all of Mazda's new and redesigned models, and they're very nicely trimmed and built.

The "me too" styling of the tC is nice, in fact they did go on record saying they wanted to basically craft a cheaper 3-Series coupe, right down to the Bangle eyebrows.

The tC will be in the low 20k range just like the Celica. That's not cheap.

It is nice. I am actually thinking about getting one for my next car but as far as power goes its lacking. Slap a turbo on there with rwd now we have a deal.

Slap a turbo and RWD on that and you'll have huge car accicent.

  16. It's one of the most generically styled cars I've ever seen.
