Sci Fi books they should turn into a movie or a TV series

  1. What's some of your favourite sci fi books you'd just love to see as what the title says?

I want to see a really big budget The War of the Worlds that's set from the actual book. Cannons, The Thunderchild, the tripods holding a heatray camera thing in their "hands".

Worldwar - Be cool to see Panthers and Tigers from WW2 trying to take on alien tanks. It's, well obviously, about an Alien invasion during WW2. Tell me you wouldn't want to see that as a movie or big budget TV series.

The Axis of Time trilogy - A coalition fleet from about 2020, fighting the war on terror, accidentally gets sent back to 1942 near Midway and the US WW2 fleet at Midway spots a Japanese ship in the 2020 fleet and opens fire. All sorts of hilarity then ensues. :wiggle:

Guns of the South - Some White Power guys go back in time and arm the The South during the American Civil War with AK47s.

World War Z - I don't know how well it would work as a movie because there aren't any main characters, it's written as a journalistic compilation from the perspective of many different characters. It would probably make a good shockumentary style tv series, where a fictional story is made to look like a non-fiction documentary, which is exactly how the book was.

Dune - They've made a movie and tv series already but they weren't very good, I'm hoping someone will do it right some day and possibly make the second, third, and even fourth books into movies or tv series'.

  3. I thouht they are turning WWZ into a movie or something?

    Sweet!

I hope they don't stray to far from the book and end up fucking everything up. The addition of a main character is already straying from the book, but then again it's nearly impossible to make a good movie without a main character. Let's hope for the best. :x:

i always thought of max brooks( the interviewer) as the main character in the book, and i agree with you that they dont fuck it up,

personally i think a few segment that HAVE to be in the movie is yonkers, the dude that trained the dogs, the japaneese geek and the blind dude and the german dude

JMS would have done an incredible job, sad to see they have someone else re-writing it.

None :hs: I feel as if it's so hard to adapt a story written for one medium (book) to another (TV or film) that most of the time, it fails terribly. I wish there was more sci fi television WRITTEN to be sci fi TV, more sci fi movies written to be movies, and just leave the sci fi books as they are. Nothing wrong with being inspired by a book, but to adapt it to film or a TV show... I feel it just ends up with the original fans of the book being disappointed and the people who have no knowledge of the book with a false impression of what the book would be like. Just my $0.02.

You have to admit, though, that "children committing genocide" is definitely an idea Hollywood hasn't done to death yet.

I'd like to see a movie that's actually based on Starship Troopers or I, Robot.

I love Caves Of Steel. It's already a movie, but I haven't seen it.
