What exactly is a 'tactical knife' used for (in California)?

Personally I EDC mostly Kershaw and CRKT knives and like them. Less expensive than Benchmade, but they've always served me well. Currently carrying a Kershaw Leek.

The other thread was more EDC knives...and I followed a different trend in the thread and went the SOG Flash II route. I love it so far

    Why are these termed 'tactical'?

    What is tactical about them?

I have no idea what is/isn't illegal in California, but as far as "tactical" knives go Emerson would be my go-to. I'm partial to the Commander and CQC-10, but the CQC-14 offers a sub-3" blade if you need that in CA.

Microtech would be another great choice if Auto's are legal, but that's doubtful.

Benchmade's Black or Blue Class knives are also very good. I have a 710 myself, and love it.

    Yes.

Hate to go back on what I said, and I never thought I would spend more than $100 on a fuckin' pocket knife, but over spring break I finally bought a Benchmade.

    585BK Mini-Barrage...

Absolutely amazing knife. The feel of it in your hand, the assisted opening, the ergos, the fit/finish. Nothing bad to say about this knife at all. Love it.

I've had my CRKT M16-14Z for 5 years or so and has proven to be one tough fucker. I see many more years of use out of it before its time to get a new one.
