Looking to pick up an "all-purpose" of sorts. Home defense is the primary use, but also shooting clays would be fun. Not looking to 3 gun or compete or anything, just for fun. Also would be used as a deer gun (low 1/2 of michigan is shotgun-only.) I've mainly been looking at the 870 since that is a pretty popular choice, but there are a lot of different models. I'd like one with a mag extension, are they ever sold that way from the factory? There's a Gander Mountain close to me and I just wanted some general info before I head out there. Here are all the 870's they carry:

Anyway, just tell me anything I might need to know. :hs: Thanks in advance.

All the gander's i have ever been to have been extremely overpriced, especially on firearms.

Sounds about right. I haven't been shotgun shopping at gander, but I've seen there handgun prices :ugh:

if your looking for a pump which can do everything but on the slow side then you can't beat the rem 870. If you want a semi auto then no benelli no care.

I have a Mossberg 535 that came with 3 barrels, an 18 inch barrel for turkey hunting that has a removable choke, a 22 inch field barrel that i use to shoot trap with and a 24 inch rifled barrel. i think I paid $400 for all of that, which i think is a good deal for the use that i get out of it.

How much could I expect to pay for a decent semi auto benelli? I don't need a crazy race gun but semi auto would be nice for shooting clays and whatnot. I'm not dead set on getting a pump action, so I'm pretty much open to anything. I'm just leaning towards pump because they can be had for around $300.

Benelli's are not cheap. I would say if you bought a used M1 or M2 good price is around $800. A new M2 (or m1 if you can find one) is $1100 - $1200 I think.

i opted against spending $$$ on benelli semiauto because another barrel costs $400 :o

i originally wanted an m4 (short barrel) but wanted to shoot trap, etc, and maybe even ducks (long barrel) if my friend ever wants to take me :x:

i ended up getting a short 870 and a long benelli supernova

A new M2 Field can be had for $1k and change if you look hard enough.
