I am reading a thread on ar15 about sbrs and people are saying they used <26" for oal and < 16" for barrel length. I have read about some of those being rejected due by some examiners. Does that still fly?

I was going to put a vortex on my 14.5" bushmaster and silver solder it. But I decided for all that hassle I might as well SBR it.

Put 14.5" if that's what you're going to use. If you ever change uppers you can send in a letter amending your Form 1.

So even though it will be longer with the flash hider attached 14.5 is right length because the flash hider is not soldered?

One more note incase my first post was unclear. You're allowed to use Different uppers, you only have to amend your Form 1 if you permanently change the configuration, like you sell you 14.5" and use a 7" barrel for example.

if you're going to go through the hassle of getting an SBR at least put a shorter barrel than 14.5" on it

Hmm would it be better to just buy the 11.5 inch barrel and throw the vortex on it once the paperwork comes through? Rather than take the brake off my current barrel?

Does that mean if I have a 9mm upper and a 223 upper, both 10.5", I can use both on one SBR?

I'm gonna agree with Dsking. I say for 10.5" or 11.5". Keep the 14.5 too if you think you'll use it. Or you know, build another one and perm. attach the brake to that one :)

I'd have to look at home, but I think I put a variation on mine (10"-14") but I cant remember if it was that or the caliber that was a variation (which I am pretty sure it is since I think you can do that so you can just get multiple uppers)

lol @ 14.5. that's not even barely an SBR. I kinda wish I would have gone with 7", but 10 is good enough

1.) you order an upper that's shorter than 16" while having a stripped lower in the safe, I'll visit you only once in prison
2.) get the forms in now before it's not allowed anymore and you're sitting on 3 lowers which you can't SBR anyways
    3.) ????
    4.) profit

like I said, fuck the money on the upper. they'lll come back. don't worry about that. its getting the stamp for your lowers that you should be worried about now.

and I dont know. what are you going to be shooting more? I'd get 9mm (I have no idea though if this would work) if I knew I could use it on a 9mm AR and a handgun

    that's what she said

EDIT: i mean, someone correct me if I am wrong here, but I'd say get the fucking stamps asap. if that bill goes through, who knows what is going to happen, and I think then the last thing you have to worry about is getting an upper. you don't register uppers
