    :hsugh:

The consensus I got from OTAP is that I can't go wrong buying this, as I have 0 lighting.

It's $229 at a local store + 6% tax I believe. It might be a bit cheaper on B&H/Adorama, but I don't mind supporting a local place plus getting it right away.

What do you guys think? I know 0 about speed lights. Is there a place to see a quick reference guide on getting started with it? Mastering lighting seems like an animal.

called the local store. they have 1. they are so nice that they put my name on it for a day without any credit card or anything. i will buy it after work.

already have 4 AA's at home charging. hopefully they work well in this flash. 2500mah or whatever sony's that I used in my old P&S

I got a sb-600 for 175. I modified it and added a miniport jack for my cybersyncs. I used it a ton, used the CLS at a few banquets where I wanted the control on camera, IE not manual flash. Really versatile setup for what I was using it for. great flash

is 229 + tax ok for immediate pickup? i might save 10-20 through the net, but it's quick and supporting a local store that's good

I have two 600's, being able to CLS with these are great especially at a pretty good price for a nice flash.

Right now I have the D300S and you can set them up in commander mode using the same channel and then you can either TTL them or manual mode them to control your flash output. You can have each flash at different levels if you want. It's a real simple and easy system to use.

hey man, i dont particularly like them either, but when you're impatient (like i am) and can get a decent price on stuff with their coupons...i dont really care too much. I do my research beforehand and jsut walk in there and tell them i want it...the employees almost never know shit about shit anyway.

i can see where you're coming from with supporting your local shops though :hs: too many good places close down because the big boys come into town..

That is the best part. The light is evenly distributed and no more shadows behind your subjects. Once you get the SB600 you will instantly be able to tell the on-board flash photos vs the SB600 flash photos.

If you can search, there is a pretty good thread here about Nikon commander mode which allows you to use the on-board flash to trigger the SB600.
