There was a National Guard demonstration at Ft. A.P. Hill that I went to, and they live fired the HMMWV-mounted M2 and Mk19 at a tank 500 meters away. The ma deuce was pretty hot, but the fact that the Mk19 40mm machine gun could sustain 40 rounds per minute was really impressive to me. That 40mm round has a 5m lethal blast radius! When the rounds went off near the tank, they flashed bright white, but I couldn't see any shrapnel coming out. Both weapons were, while not quiet, less loud than I expected.

That damn M240 was ungodly loud though. It kind of startled me and I couldn't believe it was only firing 7.62mm rounds. Unfortunately the M240 was only firing blanks but even standing at a range of 400m from the weapon, it sounded really scary. The M16A2 demo nearby sounded like a paintball gun next to it.

The M240 might have been louder then usual actually because it was firing blanks.

I was wondering about that. I don't know anything about firing blanks, though. (not too much of a point to it in the civilian world!)

Didn't see any scouts there, but there were a bunch of permanent signs pointing to campgrounds and archery ranges and such.

I'm working at shotgun, rifle and archery ranges at my Boy Scout camp this summer, and I'm getting $700 for it. Not bad considering I'm 15.
