Should be an interesting car to see on the track. 2005 will see Sauber keeping the Ferrari lump but using their own transmission. Also now shod with Michelin tires so I imagine the first few races will see them on a very steep learning curve. They've managed to work with the new shape of the Michelin tires in the windtunnel alot but haven't been able to factor in things like deformation. I hope Villeneuve works hard this year and shows some of his 1996 and 1997 form - he's run out of excuses.

nice looking car. the sidepods are interesting.

as for JV running out of excuses... I dunno man... thats his bread and butter....

look at the way the end plate on the front wing turns in. is that to deflect air from coming onto the surface of the front tire? interesting. :)

Yeah, it looks really good...sexy curves to it.

    :fawk:

All the teams use front wing endplates that try to direct air away from the tires and into the middle of the car.

Interesting - the floor of the car seems to extend all the way to the rear wheels; I thought this was illegal for 2005.

The tires produce the most drag out of any individual part on the car and also mucks up airflow so they try to direct as much air as possible away from it.

New car looks nice. The sidepods are definitely wicked looking. However, changing tires and ditching the Ferrari transmission will most likely mean they're going to have a tough time of it this season. As far as Villeneuve goes, he's washed up. He was never that great to begin with IMO. He should have won by far more than 3 points in 97 driving the Williams. Man I cannot wait for F1 season to start.

If I remember correctly, the floor must be a one peice construction with the body. There was a note on this in the Toyota thread.

Yeah I don't remember hearing anything about floor length in the new regs.

Nah, the rule is that the floor has to end a certain distance from the rear wheel instead of being "sealed" to it.

Maybe it's just a perspective thing from the angles of the photos.

The most outwardly noticeable thing is the rear wing and the height of the front wing.

If you go back and look at the Sauber pic, you can see the floor ends just before the tire.

At this rate, by 2008, the front wing will be higher than the rear wing. :hs:

Rule changes for 05. Front of rear wing must start with center axle of rear wheels. Front wing must be higher.

Would make it hard for Ralf to nudge opponents out of the way.

    Yeah I know. :)

    Been watching F1 forever.

Balzz: Yeah no joke man. My fear is that they (Max & Co.) will get too radical in their desire to slow the cars down and it will turn into a homogenized series. Hopefully this is just another one of those situations where they'll put these new regulations in place and in 2-3 years time the cars will be just as fast as they are currently. I try never to discount the engineers. ;)
