Well since I'm at home on a sat night just taking it easy and watching National Lampoons Christmas Vacation I figured I'd start a thread to keep me occupied. So yeah... anyone prepping for a PL/SM/BB comp? Details? Goals? Random bits of information you want to share?

I'd really like to compete in a PL meet but I don't know anyone who's into the sport... Also I'm pretty weak so I would be pretty embarassed :mamoru:

I know a website called chicagopowerlifting.com and there's a lot of powerlifters sort of near my area (like 40 mins away) , but that's a pretty far drive and I know no one there..If I was able to get in touch and maybe start training with some of them (they have an open training group I thin) I bet I could learn a lot. Maybe this summer...

Maybe its one of those bench for reps type deals where you bench your bodyweight for reps or something. Still doesn't really fall into either category though.

On a side note.. I'm gonna be doing the USAPL NJ States meet in January to make up for my horrible performance (bombed out) at NE Regionals. I've got some unfinished bussiness I need to take care of.

:dunno: They use some sort of forumula with weight, bench and squat. I asked the strongest man who always wins it, who i am good friends with, why they dont calculate deadlift and he told me its hard to judge perfect form on deadlift?

The deadlift probably has the highest likelihood that someone will hurt themselves

people let their ego get in the way with the deadlift. Doing reps with 135 to get your form down isnt very appealing to a lot of people. They would rather up the weight, which causes their form to go to shit... increasing the chance of injury. with the ground looking at you as a safe spot in case the rep goes wrong, people will attempt more weight. to unrack a heavy bench or squat takes a lot more effort and injury risk then picking something up off the ground

i've seen enough retards deadlifting to come to that conclusion. I don't have the scientific evidence that enables you that make that 100% positive statement though, just observational data

well, there are many different factors to come into play at a PLing meet. You can't compare a normal gym goer to a powerlifter. gym rats aren't wearing gear that enhances the amount of weight you can use. The squat and bench injuries in PLing come from using more weight then the body should be able to handle. The majority of PL injuries come from gear problems. A shirt blows or a suit tears, then its just your body holding the weight, not 1-4 plys of support gear

From a gym rat standpoint, the deadlift can be a dangerous thing if not done correctly.

Chances are, this competition will not be using gear

I just want to let people know, this is not some HUGE thing, its held by the personal trainers in the gym and every semester its the same deal.

The spring strong man comp is bench and squat. 3 tries, men and women. Thats it.

for the fall strong man comp its shoulder press, tire flip, db walk (whatever its called), and they have a few other events.

    Once again, same people.
