I can not obtain any other kind of high speed internet due to the remote loication of my house in the sticks.

Is satellite internet that much better than 56k. You can not upload things at the same speed. you still use a modem for the uploads but downloading is much faster. What do you think?

Yes, download speeds are comparable to DSL. But, the major drawback is latency if you're into online gaming. Due to the enormous distance the signal has to travel, ping times will be horrible.

I heard satellite was only about 400k download. I can do better than that on my cellular card. Better than dialup but still pretty slow as a broadband connection.

    I have satellite

I get a download speed of ~120kbps which is a hell of alot better then ~5kbps.
But the upload sucks, but still its 99% better then dial-up.
