Are they any good? They're low in fat and carbs and high in protein. Would you guys recommend it?
tons of sodium usually
not as much protein as you'd think. stick with tuna or chicken salad, lite mayo.
boars head and thumanns make lower-sodium turkey breast.
8 oz is 240 cals, 52g protein, 2g fat and 0 cards. that's pretty damn good. still fairly high in sodium but it's about half what regular deli meats have.
What's the downsides of a lot of sodium?
in moderation you should be fine.
Try to get low sodium stuff that delis offer.
In some people, too much sodium causes blood pressure to rise. High blood pressure constricts the arterioles, making them resistant to blood flow. This makes the heart work progressively harder to pump enough blood to the body's tissues and organs. High sodium levels also cause the body to retain fluid, which increases the heart's workload. People with heart failure and other heart conditions need to be especially careful not to put this extra strain on their heart.
Most people should limit daily sodium intake to no more than 2,300 milligrams.
Isn't it ok to eat higher amounts of sodium when to take in extra water to compensate for it?
Too much Sodium = High blood pressure Why not just bake a bunch of chicken breasts or hit the tuna instead. The sodium in deli meats is crazy, i hadn't heard of the low sodium one mentioned in the thread, that's worth checking into if you want to chow down on deli meat IMO
looked up a nutrition site and just copy and pasted below for ham, 5g protein and 357mg sodium, not a good trade off IMO, but in moderation not a big deal

read this post about sodium:
Is the fresh deli-sliced stuff high sodium, too? The stuff that they actually slice in front of you? I thought that shit was good for you. fuck.
Oh well. deli sandwich > hamburger.
Yea thats what I thought to.
Do you see what it looks like when they slice it? Do they slice it from a turkey? no, they slice it from this big pressed ball called "turkey meat", its pretty much like a hotdog but turkey, its just pressed meat, pumped full of nitrates and sodium.
Sodium intake only affects blood pressure in people who already have kidney problems.
