I have a chance to pick up to 500GB SATA drives at a discount through work. Where does Samsung rate against Seagate, WD or Maxtor? Never really heard anybody using them.

Samsung are supposed to be the best failure/numbers, this could be because they are a new player, it could also be because of segate taking on maxtor :o

Some models are fast, some are rather slow. there are benchmarks on the net.

I have had one die on me though!

I would recommend a Samsung over a Western Digital. But I would take Seagate over Samsung.

I would trust Samsung because of the company that they are.

The other issue here though, is how much cheaper is the Samsung over a Seagate?

Right now you can get the Seagate 500gb for $135 with free shipping at Newegg.

If the Samsung price is anything near that, I would get the Seagate.
