Please do not post these anywhere, i trust you guys so im posting here, im working on the other ones right as we speak. They are set to private on my flickr until im totally finished and ask the model if its ok to post on my blog and what not. SO AGAIN PLEASE DO NOT POST THESE ANYWHERE.

Images are pretty much finished. NO SKIN SMOOTHING was used on these particular images. Her near perfect skin plus the ring did wonders. Just cleaning up the background, removing stuff, liquifying here and there, dodging and some burning, some healing, so high pass filter, you know the norm stuff.

this was one of the looks.

We did a total of 4. Very fun shoot, awesome and fun girl to work with. we were laughing the whole time.

Normally im not a fan of the "ringflash look" but in this case i wanted to use it for that special effect on thr circular booth. And the shot where she is laying down was pretty much a memory of an issue of Maxim where they did something similar with a ringflash. The other looks pretty much have the ringflash as a dedicated fill light.

Ill post more details when im done. and then on my blog as well. There is one look where i have her on a bed type setting and its soooo hot.

What does the ring flash give you vs traditional flash?

its a full frontal fill and leaves "shadowless" look. so that you really dont see many imperfections you normally see with traditional "key/main" light.

So you can only use it for fill only? Results from ring flash look so good, but I never see wedding photographers use it. Is it not a good tool for weddings?

Alot of people use it as a main light, like i have done above. Me personally i like using it as a fill, because its the perfect fill light. Its on the same axis as your lens and completely surrounds it.

its more of a "cliche" look. its not for everyone, and for a wedding i would not want that kind of style photo. Its kinda too glam for a wedding. Weddings i would want a warm and fuzzy feel to the images.

i personally dont use it as a Main/key light often. But sometimes its perfect.

I love the first shot, not a fan of the tilt in the 2nd shot. I like the ringflash look, but I think it only lends itself to certain types of photography, and definitely as you say above, not for weddings!

i like it alot actually. Has much more detail than the 1d did. and also is very easy to work with in post at almost pixel level.

If i couldnt afford a d700, i could see myself owning two d300s. But lucky for me i get to play with the d700 too :)

yeah i know what you mean i messed up a bit, the weight of the ringlash was getting to me. But now if i fix the horizon i lose the circle. and i prefer the circle.

I think it still works, as this is a 'maxim' style shoot, just not my thing. I wouldn't sweat it!

    Just finished another one.

    Strobist:
    Canon 1dmkii with 70-200 2.8IS
580ex in a 54" softlight 45 degrees or so cam left
sb900 bare from right side and behind subject
sb28 with red gel for accent cam left also behind subject

This was a little tougher, i was about 15-20 feet in the air on a ladder. This particular bed was on a platform in TAO nightclub, and didnt exactly much room up there, so i had to improvise. I wish i would have gotten a setup shot of this one. :(

I think im starting to notice little details, which i think is good, was mad at myself for not checking the shadow cast from the sb900 from her hair. But i fixed it in post, but was hoping to get it right from the get go. Oh well the 1d screen sucks :(

I still had my 70-200 IS and my 70-200 VR hadnt come yet so i was using both systems for the shoot, weird i know, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.

thx guys, i think im getting little better, im starting to see things before i shoot/light them. But this is not rocket science, HOT Girl + some lights = good looking pic. Its when you have a not so attractive chick, thats the true test. A test im not ready for, not for awhile. Too many little mistakes i made on this shoot with certain shadows falling where i dont want them to, and needing to watch my poses. But i have taken note for next time

You'll be ready one day. I face that test every time I go to a bar. Eventually you'll be able to stomach it.
