I am having this feeling that there aren't going to be many options to SBS it without sending it to Tromix, due to the gas system. :wtc:

wtf @ turning a fucking $500 gun into an almost $1800 one after the stamp and everything

    ouch that hurts

    yeah, 10+ month wait < *

    :wtc:

maybe ill stick to the regular conversion of moving the trigger guard and putting a new stock and grip on. then down the road see if/when they get less backed up, they'll do just the shortening of the barrel and the gas system.

In regards to the gas system, as far as I know, the big thing is opening up the ports on the 12 when you shorten the barrel. Its really not ALL that hard to remove the gasblock and ream the ports out a little bit but the key would be to get the proper sized hole and I don't think Tony is telling what that would be.

There are usually 4 gas holes for the Saiga 12s.

Not so easy when you have a cushy job that isn't hurt by the bad economy like others.

yeah, 3 or 4, depends. I just thought you had to shorten something as well as the barrel.

that's what is kind of annoying on the s12 forums. everyone sackrides the shit out of tromix, nobody will share any info. thats :greddy:

It also depends on how short you want to go.

If you want to go REAL short, you have to cut down the gas tube and the gas piston. Then you will need to drill new gas ports and all that fun stuff.

I'm talking about the easy way of just shortening it up to the point of where the factory gas block lives.

Hell, if its an SBS, might as well go the whole route and shorten it all the way though!

nah, I only want it to be ~10" or so. Maybe even 12. I want something that is at least decent to shoot, and like I said I'd rather not have to cut the gas tube and piston.

I've thought long and hard about making mine into an sbs. I don't think I'll do it.

I'm going to shorten the barrel and permanently attach a shark brake so it meets legal length requirements instead.

It will be 18.5 with the brake.

I just couldn't justify the cost and possible headache of having the shorter barrel.

My Tromix S12 is an 8" version.

My second S12, I think I'm going to attempt to do the conversion myself. But, I'm going to wait until I get my 8"er from my FFL, so I can see how Tony did it. I'd like to make my second S12 more of a sporting/fuck-off shotgun. 12"bbl, competition brake, fixed ACE stock, and internal Rem-Chokes.

Just like your situation, the gas system has me the most concerned. I figure I'll adopt them same philosophy that they drill into our heads in nursing school regarding medication, "Start low. Go slow".

pretty sure he doesn't have a C3 license, that's why I ahve to cut the barrel myself.

you can look into will (red jacket) though, i know he is C3.
