I'm trying to boot into safe mode in XP Home and I've tried pressing/holding F1, F2, F8, F10... shit which one is it? It should be F8, but it doesn't register and it goes straight into Windows splash. :dunno:

Definitely F8. Make sure you don't have one of those new keyboards that makes you hit F-lock to enable the F keys. :squint:

Also, if you have a USB keyboard and your system doesn't support USB keyboards properly, you won't be able to get into safe mode.

Yet another caveat: If you stab the F8 key too many times before Windows start loading, your BIOS will assume the keyboard is broken and ignore all further input.
