I was watching TRACKS ACROSS AFRICA. They were talking about the 375 and 416 rifles. They showed some footage of their hunts. I was like WTF. All the animals they shot were just standing around. Most of them the guys walked upon and shot. Anyone ever done any of this hunting?

    That one's great.

Funny thing is the guy actually hit him... rolled him, and the damn Lion still came after him and attacked... I'd go with nothing less than a belt fed .30 cal weapon as my backup. If you can spend that much on a trip. Something FA as a backup isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Besides the cost of the trip itself those guys pay like $10k+ for the canned hunt alone, If I was going to hunt a lion I think an M1A would do the job nicely.

:werd: I dont see any point to it, you cann't eatem. If I lived over there any had livestock then I could see hunting one if its killing your stuff. Although that lion thing King Jaffi wore in Coming to America was pretty pimping

Yea, canned hunts are not right to me. Takes the sporting out of it. Pretty lame.

All the safari hunts that I've heard about are lame. Too bad that lion didn't seriously injure those morons.

A large amount of hunts in Africa are free chase, they usually specify on the website what type of hunt it is; some places do have farms they can hunt if you're running out of time and fail to get an animal (since fees are quite expensive for hunts). Also an M1A would be a horrible choice for a lion, infact it probably isnt even legal to hunt one with a .308 :hsugh:

That was a funny video. I wish it hada mauled them good though. Im thinking they wish they had bigger guns. LOL. That is some gay ass hunting. I don't see any skill being needed.

    :werd: its pretty sad...

where is the sport in stalking and tracking??? looked like in the video a group of 8-12 people could just walk up 50 yards from the lion, and they probably just got out of a jeep that they were blindly driving around in looking for a lion...

if ur not gonna eat it - dont kill it!
if its not in plague proportions - dont kill it!
if its in *your* backyard because you destroyed it's environment - dont kill it!

I'm sorry but you can't be serious. :ugh: If stalking and tracking isn't sporting then what is?

i think i missed a punctuation mark somewhere there...

i meant that they (the lion hunters) are not stalking and tracking, thus what they are doing is no longer a sport...

That's a shame the lion didn't take his head off. That is a dumb way of hunting.

My guess is that they want it for taxidermy or for the thrill of almost being killed.

As long as your a decent shot I dont see 308 being a problem to take down the lion, I've seen vid's of some big game over there being taken down with 30 cal and even poachers using AK's.

the idea of hunting is to have something left.
